A new rig

The camera we are using right now is big. Very big and heavy. I wanted to post a picture of it here, because it was rigged in a way I had never seen before.

You see, the camera must weight about 40 pounds. Probably more, actually. It's so heavy, especially with the zoom lens on that it's impossible for our trusty DOP to carry it on his shoulder to do hand held shots. So that's where this rig comes in handy. It's called a bungee rig. A big frame is put up by our grips and they have this base plate that hangs from it by big elastics, hence its name bungee. So once we secure and balance our big camera on it, there are two big handles that come out of the rig and the operator can hold it and move it as needed and it gives the same kind of floaty unstable image as hand held would without having the weight of the camera on him.

Cool hun?

I think so anyway.
